About South Congress

View South Congress home listings...

Just minutes from downtown, on the other side of Town Lake, the South Congress (SoCo) area has quickly become the cities trendiest place to live, shop, and be seen. While true Austinites might remember when the neighborhood was downtrodden and seedy, times have changed and the SoCo District is now home to some of the most eclectic (and popular) thrift stores, trinket shops, and restaurants. South Congress Avenue is also known throughout the city for its block parties thrown on the first Thursday of each month.

Over the past few years, young professionals, students, and artistic free spirits have flocked to this ultra-hip area, and as a result, real estate price have increased. The main drag, South Congress Avenue, is now teeming with condos, renovated lofts, and townhomes. Given the amount of University of Texas students in the area, there are also several large apartment complexes. If a South Congress condo or loft isn’t your thing, be sure to check out nearby Travis Heights where beautiful and luxurious homes can be found.

With a picture perfect view of downtown, the state capitol, and Town Lake, it’s no wonder that the South Congress area has become one of the hottest spots in Austin. In addition to the great SoCo scene, residents have easy access to the nightlife on 6th street and 4th street as well as hiking, biking, and kayaking offered at nearby Zilker Park.

Commute

Located just on the other side of Town Lake, South Congress residents could literally walk to work. If its raining or too hot to walk, the South Congress (SoCo) to downtown commute shouldn't take more than about 5 minutes. For students, the commute to UT campus should take more than 10 minutes. For students without a car, the university of Texas has a bus route that runs along South Congress Avenue.
