About Hyde Park

View Hyde Park home listings...

Founded in 1891, Hyde Park is one of the oldest and most desirable neighborhoods in Austin. Located a few miles from the heart of downtown and the , residents are never far from the action. This excellent location makes Hyde Park home to many Professors and students as well as businessmen looking for a quick and easy commute to downtown.

While most of the homes are aimed at Austin’s upper class, several smaller homes and apartment complexes are popping up to serve Austin students and working class. With narrow, tree lined streets and a mixture of quirky old homes and brand new mansions, Hyde Park has a distinct personality of its own. Despite its proximity to the hotspots, the neighborhood has maintained a shady, secluded feel that helps you forget that you are in the heart of the city.

Although Hyde Park is a small neighborhood, it’s packed with local amenities. There are numerous restaurants including Quack’s bakery, the all vegetarian Mother’s, and of course the famous Hyde Park Bar and Grill. There are also a number of national athletic and fitness clubs including 24 hour fitness or LA fitness, but if you are into local traditions, make sure to check out the Hyde Park Gym where a bulging bicep protrudes from the front wall. The Hyde Park neighborhood is also home to a few Austin traditions including the annual “It’s My Park Day” put on by the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association where local residents spend an entire day watering trees, planning flowers, and cleaning up the neighborhood.

Commute

The Hyde Park Area is centrally located just north of downtown, and has extremely short drive times to downtown and the University of Texas. In fact, the average commute from Hyde Park to downtown should be well under 15 minutes. The commute from Hyde Park to the University of Texas (UT) campus should take even less time considering the two are less than three miles apart. It should also be noted that several bus lines service the area and that the Hyde Park daily commute can be avoided all together.
