Leaving Austin to the north, one drives through bustling and ever-growing Round Rock and then the beautiful countryside gives way to the small town ambience of Georgetown, Texas. This central Texas town, founded in 1848, offers some really amazing architecture in the old town area.

Local sites include the Blue Hole scenic lagoon on the San Gabriel River, Lake Georgetown, Innerspace Caverns and the Palace Theater. The Georgetown Parks Department has created more than 7 miles of hike and bike trails. Also located in Georgetown is one of the last three candle factories that still hand dip their candles.

The Georgetown population is around 43,000. There are four medical centers in the area. With Southwestern University in Georgetown and seven other colleges within a 60 mile radius, higher education is well represented.

Recent home sales in the Georgetown area show approximately 45% under $150,000, 33% between $150,000 and $250,000, and the remaining 22% over $250,000. The largest employers are the Georgetown School District, Williamson County Government, Georgetown Healthcare System, and Southwestern University.

Commute

The commute from georgetown to downtown Austin is about 28 miles and should take 40 minutes via Interstate 35. Many residents work for Dell and commute a few minutes to Round Rock.
