For an exciting lifestyle, with music, fine restaurants, museums, art galleries and more, downtown Austin is the place. Long known for its great music venue, dozens of downtown clubs and eateries have live music most nights of the week.

In recent years, the SoCo, or South Congress area of Austin has become quite the trendy place to live and recreate. With townhomes, condos, lofts and homes, there is something for everyone in the way of housing. The SoCo area boasts great shopping, retro clothing and superb restaurants.

Housing prices in the downtown area are quite varied due to the many home types. Renovated warehouses and office buildings offer loft spaces from reasonable to posh in cost and amenities. With the downtown University of Texas campus, there is a great deal of housing purchased by students’ parents and re-sold when they graduate.

Though there aren’t any large shopping malls in the downtown area, there are a multitude of specialty shops and one can usually find just about anything they want close by. There is also a vibrant art scene, with galleries and museums.


Commute

Residents living in downtown Austin have the luxury of walking to work. They can also can get to green belts, outdoor recreation and various nearby communities in less than 15 minutes.

School District: Austin Independent School District

Schools: Pease and Mathews Elementaries, Leander Middle School and Austin High School are the downtown area public schools.
