About Round Rock

View Round Rock home listings...

Twenty miles north of Austin, Round Rock is one of the fastest growing and well planned communities in the state. A major factor behind the sudden interest in Round Rock is the immensely lucrative and ever expanding job market - Dell Computer Corporation and Cypress Semiconductors are just a few of the many companies headquarters here. In addition to a great job market, the Round Rock neighborhood also has the lowest property taxes and utility rates in the region. While the neighborhood has always been popular amongst families, it was selected as one of the best 100 communities for young people in 2007.

The area is expanding quickly, and as a result, most of the real estate is in large, well planned subdivisions. In stark contrast to the small, quirky homes in the Hyde Park, Round Rock real estate is large, spread-out, and provides a much better bang for the buck. While many residents work in the area, many young families are choosing to move up North to Round Rock where they can afford to build their dream home rather than find an older, smaller home closer to downtown.

Round Rock is also known as the sports capital of Texas and is home to the AAA baseball team The Round Rock Express. The team is managed by hall of famer Nolen Ryan and plays its games in the Dell Diamond which was recently voted as the best minor league park in America. Known for its job market, excellent schools, extensive park system, and low cost of living, Round Rock is quickly becoming a popular neighborhood amongst families and young professionals. With a much more suburban atmosphere than the neighborhoods closer to downtown Austin, Round Rock has been known to play off the Keep Austin Weird slogan by exclaiming “Keep Round Rock Mildly Unusual”.

Commute

Since so many corporations are located in the Round Rock area, most resident will only have to commute a few miles to and from work. Depending on traffic conditions, the commute from Round Rock to downtown Austin could take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. While the Houston Texas Real Estate actual distance is only 20 miles, the I-35 highway tends to back-up during rush hour and many residents opt to take the toll road which utilizes Mopac Expressway.

Schools: Since the majority of residents have children, the Round Rock community has gone to great lengths to ensure that the a Round Rock Independent School District provides a great education. Most teenage students will attend McNeil High School, Round Rock High School, or Westwood High School, but should a parent choose to send their children to private schools, they have several options including:

Round Rock Texas Private Schools:

  • Round Rock Christian Academy

  • Applegate SDA School

  • True Vine Christian Center

  • Texas Baptist Child’s High School

  • Illuminated Academy of Texas
