Austin Grants Provide Homes for Veterans

Contributed by ATR Admin on August 8, 2009
Homelessness is a problem that many cities have chosen to sweep under the carpet and ignore, but unfortunately the problem does not go away.

The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, yet these are the men and women who have put on a uniform and served their country. The Housing Authority of the City of Austin has now received grants totaling well over $500,000, funded under the HUD-VASH program. Combining HUD Housing Choice Vouchers with management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs, this scheme will provide homes that Veterans can afford. A positive move in addressing an ongoing concern.
