Austin and its suburbs are projected to be the 5th fastest growing area out of 250 US metropolitan areas studied in recent government data. This would be an 87% increase on the 2005 population of just under 1.5 million. Projections expect 2.7 million residents in Austin-Round Rock area by 2025. Other major Texas cities in the study were Dallas/Fort Worth with an expected 50% population increase; Houston with 48% and San Antonio with a projected 41% increase.
